WHAT IS A PLC (Professional Learning
Community)?
It is a process, not a
program. “It cannot be purchased, nor can it be implemented by anyone other
than the staff itself. Most importantly, it is ongoing—a continuous, never-ending
process of conducting schooling that has a profound impact on the structure and
culture of the school and the assumptions and practices of the professionals
within it.”
PLCs entail: 1) a focus on
learning, 2) a collaborative culture, 3) teacher inquiry into best practices
and current realities, 4) an action orientation or “learning by doing,” 5) a
commitment to continuous improvement, and 6) a results-oriented approach.
